FAQs for smart locks
Can a smart lock go on my apartment door?
Often, yes, but strata buildings sometimes have rules about front door hardware. Check your by-laws, and we can suggest models that keep the outside of the door looking standard.
What happens if the battery runs out?
Good smart locks warn you well before the battery is flat, and most have a key override or emergency power contacts. We recommend models with a backup.
Can I supply my own smart lock?
Yes. Tell us the model when you ask for a quote and we confirm it suits your door before the visit.
Are smart locks as secure as a deadbolt?
A good smart lock, properly fitted, can be as secure as a quality deadbolt. Cheap models and poor fitting are the weak points, which is why we check the door and the lock first.
Which smart lock should I buy?
It depends on the door, the lock already there and how you want to open it: code, fingerprint or phone. Send us a photo of the door and we recommend models that fit, with a mechanical key backup.
Can I give temporary codes to cleaners or guests?
Yes. Most keypad and app locks let you create codes for a person or a set period, then delete them when they are no longer needed.
Do smart locks work with my phone?
Many do, through an app over Bluetooth or wifi. Some are keypad or fingerprint only. We set up the app with you before we leave.
Can you remove a smart lock at the end of a lease?
Yes. We can take a smart lock off and fit a standard keyed lock, for example when you move out of a rental.
